Blogs are a useful supplement to a web site; they allow the interactivity that a ‘brochure’ web site does not offer and nor should they – they are there to show visitors what our business are all about and how using them can benefit you.
A blog is much more personal. On them we can post articles about our business, our market sector, or products and actively encourage feedback from our audience. This feedback can be invaluably helpful, not only to use, but the blogs other visitors.
We’ve used WordPress for our blog because it is stable, easy to install, easy to use, secure and robust. There are also hundreds of freely available themes (templates) and add-ins (programs that provide blogs with additional functionality) with which WordPress blogs can be tailored.
It is our intention to post to our blog at least once a week to keep you abrest of developments in the business world, the digital world (we can’t escape it these days), the world of web design and marketing and life in general.
So, we hope you enjoy reading our articles and musing and do remember that this is an interactive site and your comments are most welcome.

Welcome to new web design students
2009 Leave a Comment Written by Derek
Welcome to students from the Web Design (Level 2 and 3) courses that Derek is running at Southport & Waterloo Colleges, we hope you will find this blog useful as you progress through your course.
Details of your particular course can be found by clicking on your course from the Courses menu above. This includes dates, syllabus, etc. Hover over your course on the Courses menu and a page for each week will be listed. Click over one of these options and you will be able to access all the notes and resources that were issued that week.
The resources menu contains lots of links to free resources, tutorials, images, fonts, scripts, etc. for web designers. Please do make use of it, almost everything listed is available free of charge – we’re sure you’ll find it really useful.
Should you want to find something and can’t, use the search facility in the top right corner of each page. The search engine is automatically updated when we add new blogs posts and amend the pages, so it’s always up-to-date.
If you want to be automatically notified when the web site has been updated, then subscribe to our RSS feed via the Subscribe panel on the right of each page – you only need to register once for the whole site, not once for each page.
And don’t forget, this is an interactive blog, so if you want to comment on any of our blog posts, or pages, please register (see the Administration panel on the right of all pages) and comment away. All we ask is that you post your comment on the relevant page; if you want to make a comment about something we did in week 1 of the course, leave your comment on that page.
That’s it, a big welcome and we look forward to you taking an active part in this blog.
