Windows XP is dead, long-live Windows XP!!
Well, good as it may be, and we sure love it here at dynanti, it’s now time to take that giant leap (over Vista) and install Windows 7.
Why? Well Microsoft has now declared Windows XP to be ‘end-of-life’ and it has not released an emergency security patch for the operating system that would fix a bug that attackers can use to take control of our computers. The patch was released for Windows Vista and Windows 7.
We have been running all flavours of Windows (XP, Vista and 7) in the office since the start of the year and we have found the latest incarnation (Windows 7) to be extremely reliable and compatible with even the oldest pre-XP software that we have.
Derek Hughes, Partner at dynanti, said, “The last thing we need on our network are computers whose operating systems contain flaws that could enable attackers to steal our valuable data. As a result, we will be upgrading all of our Windows XP computers as soon as possible to more recent versions.”
It’s a shame and we feel a little like Jim Lovell bidding farewell to the Apollo 13 command module shortly before re-entering the earth’s atmosphere on that fated mission…
Goodby Windows XP, you have served the world well!
